2010 Music City Bowl:
Kentucky Wildcats vs. Clemson Tigers
The Music City Bowl was first played in 1998 at the Vanderbilt Stadium and shifted to the LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans beginning 1999. In 2002, the Music City Bowl game started to be known as Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl. In 2003, Bridgestone became the presenting sponsor of the game transforming the full name of the game to the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl presented by Bridgestone. The 2002 and 2003 sponsors are both based in Nashville. The previous years in 2000 and 2001 have had no sponsors; however, the American General Life & Accident (now a subsidiary of AIG) supported the inaugural 1998 game continued by the now-defunct ìhomepoint.comî in the 1999 game.
Conference matchups were featured with the initial game played between the Southeastern Conference and the Big East Conference. In 2002, the Big East was replaced by the Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Conference was also replaced by the Atlantic Coast Conference starting in 2006. In 2005, the ACC had to take part in the game when Virginia appeared for the reason that SEC did not have enough bowl-eligible teams.
In the history of the Bowl, Virginia Tech in 1998 had the most lopsided win (38-7) over Alabama. In 2005, Virginia once more had the closest game with a 34-31 win over Minnesota. The highest point total was recorded in 2000 by West Virginiaís 49 against Ole Missí 38. Syracuseís 20-13 win over Kentucky in 1999 was the lowest scoring game. In the 2007 season, Kentucky won a 35-28 over Florida State with the Most Valuable Player garnered by Andre Woodson of Kentucky for the past 2 years from 2006-2007.
